'Quality as a key component' was one of the topics that key account manager Arjan van der Veer discussed several years ago with Cynthia van der Helm of Sjaak van Schie hydrangea nursery. "The high Reliability Index costs clearly showed that something had to change," explains Arjan.
So Royal FloraHolland's Quality Advisor Cees van Luling went to Sjaak van Schie to look into the matter. He helped the nursery formulate a plan of action for the long term, set up an inspection system and develop some practical working methods that would result in better quality, fewer costs and a better image. "It goes way beyond an inspection," says Cynthia. "With Cees' help, we have given our staff understanding and responsibility. Our people have been inspired and now the company is making great strides. Our costs are lower and the price for our hydrangeas is much better. What's more, we quickly recouped the cost of the quality service."
