Blog: Fittonia in every living room
Paul Schoenmakers talks about Fittonia. “Although we already have so many varieties of Fittonia, we are still looking every day for new ones. We follow the trends on television and in the magazines to find inspiration for different varieties. Every day I walk through the greenhouse with my brothers. We consider the possibilities for our company while walking.
"We have so many ideas: other colours, variation in leaf shape or design. In our test area, we breed the plants. Often, we are able to develop a new variety, but not always. Recently, we had an image survey conducted among our buyers, which produced some interesting new insights. And we have commissioned an agency to search for a new buyer in each European country. We want to keep growing in a healthy way.
When my children were small, they quickly learned to recognise Fittonia. It would be great if in the future everyone would recognise our plants. And buy them of course. We attend the Trade Fair each year to improve the public's familiarity with the versatility and beauty of Fittonia. Once people get to know Fittonia, they are generally impressed by it.
We envisage lots of opportunities for our company. Fittonia is an excellent mixer in creative arrangements. Why is there usually a bouquet at the reception desk of a company? You could choose instead a lovely bowl with Fittonia. That is surprising and immediately grabs your attention. Master chef Harold Buinsters from Passion Cuisine in Haaren is even experimenting with dishes containing Fittonia. It tastes rather like a cucumber, and the colours are lovely on a plate. So much is possible. We want to conquer Europe with Fittonia. Our plants in every living room; that is our dream.
